Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq is the former Minister of Finance for the Republic of Maldives. During his tenure he presided over the Procurement Policy Board, held the presidency of the National Pay Commission, as well as served as the Governor of the Republic of Maldives to the World Bank Group, Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Islamic Development Bank, and the Common Fund for Commodities where he oversaw technical and investment-related aspects of the government under the resource mobilization mandate.

Dr. Shafeeq held the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the Housing Development Finance Corporation Plc (HDFC). HDFC, a privatized company, boasts a shareholder consortium comprised of the International Finance Corporation (IFC of the World Bank Group), the Asian Development Bank, and HDFC Investments Ltd. of India, jointly holding a 51% stake.

Dr. Shafeeq earned his Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from the IIC University of Technology Cambodia in 2019. He obtained his master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Ballarat, Australia, in 2008, and his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance (Hons) from the University of East London, UK, in 2003. He holds fellowship memberships with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA, UK) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives. With a diverse background, Dr. Shafeeq has not only served as a member of the Board of Directors of Maldives Hajj Corporation but also chaired its Audit Committee. His expertise extends to providing consultancy and training in credit and financial analysis, budgeting, audit, taxation, and strategic planning, both locally and internationally. He is recognized as a prominent academician in the domains of Accounting and Finance.
