Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) PLC, established in January 2004, is the only specialized housing finance institution in the Maldives. HDFC is a privatized institution with 51% shares held jointly by IFC, ADB and HDFC Banks Ltd. of India with the Government of Maldives holding the balance 49%. HDFC Amna is the Islamic Window of the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) Plc. In our continuous effort to improve housing finance solutions to the Maldivian citizens, we have launched a number of Shariah products under HDFC Amna, which was inaugurated on May 26, 2012. In order to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the Islamic division of HDFC, we seek a vibrant and dedicated candidate who can provide support to the AMNA Team of the company in the capacity of a Shariah Compliance Officer

Job Description

  • Ensure HDFC- Amna’s operations are carried out in compliance with the Shariah values, ethical business practices, HDFC-Amna policies and within the legal framework and requirements.
  • Perform research on Shariah aspects for each product before its presentation to the Shariah Committee for decision.
  • Formulate and recommend appropriate Shariah risk management policies and guidelines.
  • Coordinate and resolve shariah non-compliant events as per the guidelines of the Shariah Committee.
  • Conduct periodic review of Islamic Financing facilities/documents.
  • Prepare quarterly Sharia’ah Compliance Reports in accordance with regulatory framework
  • Assist in identifying training requirements of staff in relation to its Shariah compliant business and provide support in preparing and delivering required training sessions.
  • Act as a Secretary to the Shariah Committee.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Shariah/ Shariah & Law/ Fiqh Muamalat/Islamic Banking & Finance
  • Analytical and research approach and proactive attitude in managing issues.
  • Conversant with relevant regulatory requirements: Maldives Monetary guiding principles and guidelines in Islamic Finance and Shariah Parameters
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including verbal and written, with a strong emphasis on report writing and presentation capabilities.
  • Previous experience with Islamic financing products or the financial services sector will be an added advantage.

Salary: Negotiable commensurate with qualification and experience

Term of Contract:12 months (The contract shall be extended based on performance)
