Our team visited Kulhudhuhffushi City from 24th to 26th September, meeting with the city council, local contractors, the police force, and residents as part of the ongoing effort to bring housing finance services closer to communities outside the Greater Malé Area.
Meeting with Kulhudhuhffushi City Council
The visit began on the 24th of September with a meeting at the Kulhudhuhffushi City Council. Discussions covered current housing demand in Kulhudhuhffushi, land and development plans underway in the city, and how HDFC's financing products can support residents looking to build, complete, or purchase a home. Both parties agreed on the value of continued coordination so that residents have clear information on the financing options available to them.
Engaging with contractors
Following the council meeting, the team met with local contractors working in Kulhudhuhffushi. The session focused on construction costs, project timelines, and how HDFC's stage-based disbursement process works alongside a build an area where clear expectations between financier, homeowner, and contractor make a significant difference to how smoothly a project progresses.
Engaging with the Kulhudhuhffushi Police Team
Later that same day, the team held a dedicated information session with the Kulhudhuhffushi Police Team. The session walked the officers through HDFC's housing finance products, eligibility requirements, the documents needed to apply, and how repayments are structured, giving them the opportunity to clarify any questions regarding their own housing projects.
Information sessions in Kulhuhduhffushi City

Over the weekend, HDFC held open information events to connect directly with the public:
- Friday Night — An open information session was held for the public, which saw an incredible turnout with more than 300 people attending. The team guided attendees through application processes and closed with a question-and-answer segment for residents to discuss their specific circumstances.
- Saturday Afternoon — The team visited the local "Honihiru Baazaaru" event, setting up to meet with residents for one-on-one sessions. These direct consultations provided tailored information and personalized advice about our housing finance products.
Each session walked attendees through HDFC's housing finance products, eligibility requirements, the documents needed to apply, and how repayments are structured. The sessions closed with question-and-answer segments, giving residents the opportunity to raise their own circumstances directly with the team.
Looking ahead

HDFC thanks the Kulhudhuhffushi City Council, the local contractors, the Kulhudhuhffushi Police Team, and everyone who attended the Friday session and met with us at the Honihiru Baazaaru. Visits of this kind remain an important part of how we work to make housing finance accessible to families throughout the Maldives, and further outreach is planned in the months ahead.
